Trials & Tribulations

I spent an hour last night trying to put on my new duvet cover. I consider myself to be a pretty patient person, but this duvet cover has pushed me to my limit. I felt totally incompetent, just like the last time I couldn’t remove the lid off a pickle jar.

Your holiness, the good book says that trials and tribulations worketh patience. And I have no doubt that St. Paul had duvet covers in mind when he said that.

Why can't they make those things with just a little more material? It would make it so much easier.
I feel for you.

Maybe in your spare time you could pen a book entitled "Covering Duvets for Dummies" - just a thought. Then you could go out and get yourself a personal (secret) stash of your favorite snacks and coffee with all that book money.

What is a duvet cover?

Oh dear. I sympathize. I have a supersize king comforter -- made to hang well over the edges of a king-size bed -- and wrestling with that cover is the most odious of household tasks. Oh wait -- there's also the fun of trying to dry the thing in the dryer. It twists itself into a vortex of flannel that can only be pried apart by beefy male biceps. When there are none handy I stand there and cry.

Putting on a duvet cover can try the patience of even a holy man like yourself.

Yer m'mnance,

Look next to your bed, there's a bell, ring it and some one who is supposed to tend to such manners will come and take care of your bed making.

The Prefecture of the Papal Household is supposed to take care of all such manners, making beds, ordering coffee, perhaps returning items to the store which (through no fault of your own, I'm sure) may not be the right size.

What's a duvet? I'm running out of patience with all the pomp...wait a minute, I remember what a duvet is from that first time in Switzerland..that cold night arriving in the snow and the bed was crisp and white and filled with feathers
